Berkovitz Takes Home N.E.W. MVP

The Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League has announced the winners of the post-season awards and the All-League Teams.
Earning the 2008 Most Valuable Player award is middle infielder, Grant Berkovitz of the Sheboygan A’s. Berkovitz led the NEWBL in doubles (t10), triples (t2), and runs scored (34). He also batted .393 and drove in 17 runs while leading Sheboygan to a second place finish in the NEWBL. Berkovitz’s solid defense also helped him win the award.
Fellow Sheboygan teammate and right-handed pitcher, Cody Griebling won the League’s 2008 Most Valuable Pitcher award. Griebling was a flawless 4-0 and carried a league-low 0.77 ERA. Griebling gave up just 3 earned runs while striking out 25 batters in 35 innings.
Adam Linsmeyer of the De Pere River Bandits took home 2008 Rookie of the Year honors as the league’s top rookie giving De Pere it’s second such honor in as many years (Jeff Riddle, 2007 ROY). Linsmeyer, a left-handed pitcher, went 4-1 with a 1.00 ERA. He also struck out 36 batters in 45 innings of work.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
