A’s Split Offensive Doubleheader with Greenville
Posted: June 22, 2025
The Sheboygan A’s opened Saturday’s doubleheader with a nine-run first inning and coasted to a 15–3 victory over the Greenville Stars in game one. But in game two, Greenville returned the favor, piling on runs early and handing the A’s an 18–8 loss in a wild day of Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League action at Wildwood Park.
In the opener, the A’s erupted for nine runs on nine hits in the bottom of the first. Harry Steldt, Connor Lasch, and Calvin Keesler each ripped RBI doubles to get things started. Jimmy Juergensen and Bradyn Horn added run-scoring singles, and by the time the inning ended, Sheboygan had batted around and led 9–1. They weren’t done. Keesler launched a solo home run in the second, Gus Walker tripled in a run, and Alex Ames added an RBI single as the lead ballooned to 13–1.
Steldt finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two doubles to lead the offense, while Keesler and Lasch each drove in multiple runs. The A’s racked up 16 hits in the five-inning win. Eric Schmitz went the distance, allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out three to earn the win.
But game two was a different story. Greenville scored four in the second, three in the third, and then broke it open with an eight-run fourth inning that included a grand slam and a two-run homer. Sheboygan responded with a big fourth of their own — Nick Tenny homered to left to score two, Hudson Wagner drove in a run with a single, and Ames was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded — but the early damage was too much to overcome.
Steldt stayed hot in the nightcap, going 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Tenny, Keesler, and Wagner each drove in two runs, and Horn added a pair of hits in the loss. Sheboygan totaled 10 hits, but allowed 14 and issued too many free passes to keep pace. Starter Keagan Wheeler took the loss, allowing eight runs over 2 1/3 innings.
The A’s now sit at 12-7 overall, 4-1 in NEWBL play, and 3-4 in the Wisconsin State League heading into Sunday’s WSL/NEWBL doubleheader in Green Bay.
