The 2024 Sheboygan A’s season came to a close Wednesday night at the hands of the West Allis Nationals.
Playing in a one-game playoff with the winner advancing to the Wisconsin Class A State Tournament, West Allis came away with an 8-3 win and will join Kenosha, Green Bay, and Kewaskum in the tournament Saturday and Sunday.
After the first two innings were scoreless, the A’s jumped on the board first when Ian Merry scored on a wild pitch.
The A’s would take a 2-0 lead in the fourth with an Alex Perez double that scored Brady Zackrison from first base.
West Allis would respond in the bottom of the fourth, pushing three across the plate to jump in front, but the A’s next time to the plate resulted in a tie game when Jimmy Juergensen led off the fifth with a double, which was followed by Gus Walker driving in Juergensen.
The A’s offense would go silent the rest of the way as West Allis would score two in the fifth and three in seventh to seal the game away, and end the A’s season.
The A’s finished with five hits, but what was ultimately an Achilles’ heel all season, errors, again contributed to runs against in the loss as the club committed three during the game. The Nationals took five of the six meetings between the two teams this season.
With the 2024 season complete, the A’s finished with an overall record of 34-23. They finished 14-12 in the Wisconsin State League, and 12-8 in the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League, good for a second place finish.
