It was a tight one against the NEWBL’s top two teams Friday night, but the league-leaders edged out the challengers 2-1 at Koslo Park.

Both teams showcased stellar pitching performances. Eric Zuberbier, facing his former team, started on the mound for the A’s, delivering a strong seven innings. He struck out eight batters, allowing only one run on four hits and one walk. His lone blemish against his former club came with two outs in the fifth on a single to right field.

Meanwhile, Menasha’s Jack Grable kept the A’s scoreless through his seven and one-third innings, giving up six hits while striking out four and walking five.

The A’s had opportunities to respond, demonstrating patience at the plate and drawing six walks. Down 2-0 after the Macs tacked on one in the bottom of the eighth, the A’s finally got the goose egg off the run column in ninth when Alex Ames singled in Nick Herzog for the teams only run.

The A’s will have to bounce back quickly as the club travels back to the Fox Valley Saturday afternoon for a 1 PM doubleheader with Greenville.
