A's Fall to Blue Ribbons

A’s Drop WSL Opener 9-6

Posted: May 31, 2022

Despite jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, Green Bay stormed back to tie the game at 3-3 then scored five in the fifth to eventually come away with the 9-6 victory over the A’s Tuesday night.

It was both clubs’ Wisconsin State League openers, while it also counted in the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League.

A’s starter Jared Reklaitis (UW-Milwaukee Alum) and Blue Ribbons starter Liam Jones each battled high early pitch counts, with each starting pitcher only lasting four innings before giving way to the bullpen.

It was then that the Blue Ribbons offense struck. They dinged A’s reliever, Mac Doherty (Marian University), for four hits, and four runs before he exited after two-thirds of an inning and Jimmy Juergensen (Concordia-Nebraska) came on in relief.

Offensively, Jacob Neese (Parkland Community College) continued his strong start to the season with his third home run, going 2-for-4 with three runs driven in. Gus Walker (Marian University), Ross Krist (UW-Platteville), Brady Zackrison (Marian University), Juergensen, and Bennet Becker (Carroll College) all had one hit apiece.

The 2022 season, presented by Meijer, continues Thursday when the West Allis Nationals come to town for Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Night. Drivers from the racing circuit will have their cars on display in the parking lot prior to the game for fans to see and take pictures with. First pitch Thursday is 7:30 PM.

It was announced late Tuesday, that Wednesday night’s scheduled game in Manitowoc has been canceled. No makeup date has been announced.
