APPLETON, WI – Jared Reklaitis pitched a complete-game three-hitter as the Sheboygan A’s defeated the Appleton Legends 3-0 in the opening game of the 2021 Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League post-season round-robin tournament.
The A’s will host Menasha Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 6:30 PM, with game one being a makeup game from a previously rained out regular season contest, and game two being part of the round-robin.
Reklaitis, a UW-Milwaukee grad, pitched his second nine-inning complete game of the season en route to the win. He threw 126 pitches, striking out eight. He allowed only three hits to Appleton, all singles.
The A’s offense all came in the top of the seventh inning. With the game knotted at 0-0, Bennet Becker led off the inning reaching base on an error. Following a ground out, a walk, and a flyout, JT Reed reached base on the Legend’s second error of the inning to load the bases. Another walk plated the A’s first run. Up came A’s veteran Harry Steldt who laced a single to left field on the first pitch he saw, scoring two.
With the win, the A’s are now 1-0 in NEWBL tournament play with Mensha in town Tuesday. Tuesday is Christmas in July presented by the Sheboygan Optimist Club. Santa will be at Wildwood Park with gifts for kids. The A’s will have Christmas-themed music, Christmas coloring sheets, Christmas-themed games, and more. Tickets are available now.
