2017 NEWBL Playoff Primer
Posted: August 9, 2017
The 2017 Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League playoffs begin tonight. There have been several changes to the format of the playoffs.
Due to the extremely rainy weather throughout the summer, the regular season got pushed back more than a week later to try to get all the league’s games in. This resulted in the playoff format being altered to single-game series, instead of the best-of-three series format. The top four teams from the NEWBL regular season will be in the playoffs. The semi-finals and finals will both just be single nine inning games.
The Sheboygan A’s finished third in the regular season standings and will travel to second-seeded Menasha tonight for a semifinal matchup with the Menasha Macs. First pitch is at 7:30 PM.
The Macs have been a thorn in the A’s side recently, having eliminated the A’s from the NEWBL playoffs in each of the past four seasons, three of which have been in the NEWBL finals.
The Appleton Legends hold the top overall seed and will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs should they advance to the championship. They will play host to the four-seed Green Bay Storm tonight at 7:30 PM.
The winners of the two semifinal matchups will meet Friday at 7:30 PM. The highest seed remaining would host the game.
In order for the A’s to host, they would need to win against Menasha, and have Green Bay knock off Appleton.
If rain would become a factor Wednesday or Friday, Thursday and Saturday are set to be the makeup dates.
