SHEBOYGAN – Throwback Night at Wildwood Baseball Park saw
vintage A’s jerseys, cheap prices in the souvenir and concessions stands, and
one heck of a baseball game. The A’s and West Allis Nationals engaged in an
exciting and competitive North Division Wisconsin State League contest.
It’s not called WILDwood Baseball Park for nothing, this
game saw a combined 17 runs and 28 hits.
The Nationals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but after a pair
of RBI doubles by McCoy and Heili in the 3rd inning, the A’s tied
the game at 2.
West Allis retook the lead in the top of the 5th inning
on a series of miscues by the A’s. In the bottom half of the frame Sheboygan
got a run back on a fielder’s choice by Heili that slimmed the Nationals lead
to 4-3.
After the Nationals scored a run in their 6th,
the A’s fought back with three runs of their own. Fenner, Detert, and Amundsen
strung three hits together that plated three runs, giving the A’s a 6-5 lead.
In the 9th, the Nationals put a big rally
together to score four runs and take a commanding 9-6 lead. A’s were about to
rally and score two more runs but that was all the fight they had as the A’s
fell by a score of 9-8.
A’s mainstay Harry Steldt collected his 200th career
hit in the 1st inning and later added career hit number 201 in the 9th.
The A’s fall to 17-11 overall and 10-7 in the Wisconsin State League.
The A’s will hit the road Wednesday night when they head
down to face the Kenosha Kings in a Wisconsin State League game. The A’s return
home to Wildwood Baseball Park Thursday in a Langsdorf Night League match-up
versus the Pewaukee Muskies with the first pitch scheduled for 7:30 PM.
