A’s Beat Appleton, 7-4
Posted: July 10, 2014
Don’t look now, but the Sheboygan A’s are just a half-game out of first place in the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A’s won at Appleton Wedesday, 7-4.
The battle for first
looks like this: Menasha 7-1, Sheboygan 7-2, Appleton 8-3.
The A’s built up an early 6-1 lead, but managed to
make it interesting and Appleton closed to 7-4 and got the tying run to the plate
before Brandon Winfield came on to shut the Legends down and preserve the win
for Derek Loomans.
Loomans went six strong
innings to get the win. He gave up four
hits and one earned run. AJ Alessi, Max Kramsky and Winfield pitched in relief.
The fast-starting A’s got
a leadoff triple from Colin Willis and a sacrifice fly from Harry Steldt for their
first run. Right after that Jake Perez
singled and Cole Heili smacked the first inning’s second triple. Langley drove in
a run in the third and in the fifth back-to-back-to-back doubles by Perez,
Heili and Langley keyed a 3-run inning.
The A’s would up with 16 hits. Heili led the way with a single, double and triple. Perez, Lanle and Trevor
Theissen finished with a single and double.
The A’s, 3-0 since their July 4 break and 22-9 for the
season, travel to Oshkosh tonight and a chance to break the first place logjam.
The A’s are off on Friday, but play Kenosha at 6 p.m. and Addison at 8:30 on
Saturday night in the Wisconsin State League Challenge at Wildwood
Park.
