A’s Down Green Bay For 10th Straight Win
Posted: July 10, 2013
After serving up a 3-run home run to the power-hitting Doug Coe in the first inning, Bryce Taylor settled in and shut down the Green Bay Storm for the next seven innings and his teammates battled back to get him a victory by a 7-4 count.
The A’s 10th straight win moves them to 8-6 in the Northeastern League. They host front-running Menasha (8-1) tonight at Wildwood Baseball Park.
After Coe’s blast, the first of two Harry Steldt doubles and an infield out by Chad Langley in the bottom of the first quickly brought the A’s back to 3-2 after one.
Helped by critical Green Bay errors, the A’s took 5-3 lead in the fifth. A long Greg Rhude double and a hit by Chad Langley were scattered between two Green Bay errors in the 3-run frame. Grant Evans drove-in a run in fifth and Rhude in the sixth to round out A’s scoring.
But Green Bay wouldn’t go away in the ninth.
With a run in, two out, the bases loaded and Coe stepping in, Skipper Tyler Martin brought in young and recently added to the roster Peter Sommerfeld who battled Coe and won with a strikeout to earn a save.
Taylor, the A’s young Australian, scattered six hits through 8â…”, struck out four and walked six. Steldt with a pair of doubles and Luke Maldonado with a single and a double led A’s sticking.
Wednesday’s game is Mayline Night and Thrivent Night with fans encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Thrivent Food Pantry.
