A’s Jolt League-Leading Appleton Legends, 8-4
Posted: July 3, 2013
The revitalized Sheboygan A’s jolted the Appleton Legends by an 8-4 score Tuesday night at Wildwood Baseball Park.
The A’s welcomed the return of sly lefthander Lucas Wilsing who held the first place Legends to just one run through seven innings and the return of Harry Steldt and Ryan Schilter to the line-up. Schilter has been on and off the A’s roster for the past four seasons splitting time with the Northwoods League and Steldt has been playing in Europe with a U.S. National Team for the past 10 days. Both have rejoined the A’s line-up and both made an impact. Between them they scored two runs, drove in four and collected five hits.
Wilsing gave up only one run through seven innings in his first start since June 12. Trevor Nicholson and Jordan DeBoer finished up.
The score was locked at zero until an error helped the A’s take a 1-0 lead. They made it 2-0 when Steldt drove in Schilter in the fifth. Appleton closed to 2-1, before the A’s put a big six in the sixth inning. Jeremy McCarty and Cole Heili both had 2-run hits in the inning.
Steldt had three hits in his first game back, Schilter two in his second, and Taylor Schwarz two.
Schwarz gets the start in tonight’s 7:30 p.m. game against Manitowoc. The 14-15 A’s will seek the .500 mark against Manitowoc. The club plays host to Friday night’s all-star game between the Langsdorf and Northeastern Wisconsin leagues.
