Cavs Take Two From A’s

Posted: June 24, 2013

Making far too many physical and mental mistakes to beat anybody, much less the Eau Claire Cavaliers, the Sheboygan A’s dropped a doubleheader to the Cavs Sunday afternoon, 5-0 and 8-4.

Base-running errors and in some cases pure lack of hustle took the A’s out of any chances.

“Our guys get behind and we just seem to lose focus,” manager Tyler Martin said.

“You see these things happen and you can’t believe it,” GM Denny Moyer said. “This is a better team than it is showing. We’re playing a lot and we’re tired, but there is no excuse for the pee wee league mistakes we made today.”

The A’s got six hits but couldn’t score a run in the first game as three of their seven innings ended in double plays. Derek Loomans, the victim of three A’s errors, took the loss.

The second game was a matter of A’s players making outs on the base paths and failing to take advantage of scoring opportunities. Despite the throw-outs, the A’s left nine on base, six of them in scoring position.

Eau Claire scored early and the A’s gave away what opportunities they had to get back in it.

Greg Rhude had three hits in the game and Sam Mattheis a pair.

The A’s travel to Northern Illinois for a Langsdorf League game tonight and are in Manitowoc Tuesday night before returning to Wildwood for Wednesday and Thursday night home contests. The club is now 10-14 for the season.
