Appleton hands A’s another tough loss

A very solid Appleton Legends team stuck the Sheboygan A’s with another tough loss Monday night at Wildwood Baseball Park.
The A’s, who lost three of four games to the Lombard Orioles by one run, two in extra innings, lost another 1-run game Tuesday night – this time to the Northeastern Wisconsin League-leading and unbeaten Appleton Legends, 4-3.
It was a most frustrating loss for the A’s, who left runners in scoring position with one out or less in the second, third, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
“We had chances, but we had bad at bats – impatient and mindless at bats – when we needed smart at bats. Hats off to Appleton, they stuck us, and they deserved the win. But once again, we made some foolish mistakes,” said A’s GM Denny Moyer.
The A’s, now 7-10, have a chance for redemption tonight and tomorrow when they travel to Oshkosh and Green Bay. They return to Wildwood Friday night to meet Manitowoc on Bud Light Night and then entertain Eau Claire Saturday night and Sunday afternoon for a 4-game set.
Trevor Theissen had four hits including a lead-off double in the ninth inning when the A’s needed only one run to extend the game, but the middle of the A’s line-up couldn’t deliver going down on two strikeouts and a weak infield out.
A’s starter Bryce Taylor and reliever Eric Schmitz pitched well enough to earn a victory, but the A’s bats couldn’t produce it for them.
