RALLY: A’s even series 1-1 after 5-4 win

One thing about the 2012 Sheboygan A’s: they don’t quit.
Coach Kyle Trewyn’s ball club came back from deficits of 1-0, 3-2 and 4-3 to post a 5-4 11-inning win over the Kenosha Kings at Wildwood Baseball Park Thursday night and force a deciding third game in the Langsdorf League’s best of three championship series.
It was the second straight game that went 11 innings between the two teams. The Kings won the opener in Kenosha 3-2 on Tuesday night.
Game three will be played in Kenosha Saturday night at 7:30. The A’s bus will leave at 4:30 pm and fans interested in riding along on the bus can do so for $5. Those interested can call 458-6377 to reserve their seat on the bus.
The A’s won the game in pretty much the same way they lost on Tuesday. The A’s made critical mistakes in the bottom of the 11th on Tuesday night to give Kenosha the win. Kenosha made critical mistakes in the bottom of the 11th last night to give the A’s the win.
With two outs Grant Evans bunted for a base hit and went to second when pitcher Jason Bunton made a bad throw to first. Up stepped Jon Capasso who had battling at bats against Kenosha pitchers all night long. He slapped a ball to the left side hole for a base hit. Evans sprinted for third when the ball got to the outfield and when Kenosha shortstop Joe Ferro retrieved it, he threw wildly to third and Evans scampered in with the winning run.
Chad Langley, Taylor Schwarz and Trevor Theissen had critical runs batted in earlier in the game. Theissen and catcher Matt Bromley (who threw out two would-be Kings base stealers) had two hits for the A’s.
Schwarz, the fourth A’s pitcher to work in the game got the win with three scoreless innings. Starter Ben Stanczyk and Derek Loomans who followed him to the mound also had good outings.
Kenosha’s Tyler Eichmeyer had five hits to emerge as the game’s offensive star. Jason Bunton was the losing pitcher.
The A’s go into the championship with a 32-24 record. Kenosha is 37-11.
The A’s turn their attention to the Northeastern League when they play at Manitowoc Sunday night in a game critical to the seedings in that league.
