Macs rout shorthanded A’s

A hard-hitting Menasha Macs club embarrassed the undermanned Sheboygan A’s with a pair of 9-run innings en route to a 21-5 Northeastern Wisconsin League victory Monday night in Menasha.
The loss puts the A’s at 8-7 in the league, a full game behind Green Bay and Menasha who share the lead at 8-5. The A’s are 24-19 for the season.
In a gallant effort to save the arms of his pitching staff after the 4-game weekend and in the midst of an 8-games in 6-day stretch, skipper Kyle Trewyn took the mound and absorbed the pounding. Menasha racked up their 21 runs on 21 hits, 3 walks and 3 hit batsmen. Four errors, committed by A’s players in unfamiliar positions, contributed to the Menasha cause.
Grant Evans, Sam Raff, Chad Langley and Justin Hunt all had two hits for the A’s.
“The guys on the field gave it a go and I’m proud of them, especially Kyle,” general manager Denny Moyer said. “We heard all kinds of excuses why people couldn’t make the game. It was the guys who didn’t show who let us down, not the guys who battled in 90-plus degree heat, playing their fifth game in three days, against a very good team. They can hold their heads high.
“We are still in the playoff races in two leagues; it is time for some of our players to assess how they have carried out the level of commitment they agreed to.”
The A’s play a crucial game at Manitowoc Tuesday before returning home to play Appleton Wednesday, Oshkosh Friday, Genoa City Saturday and Lombard Sunday. Taylor Schwarz will get the starting nod Tuesday.
