Sheboygan A's Baseball

Busy week ahead for A’s

Posted: July 2, 2012

It may be a vacation week for many, but it will be business as usual for the Sheboygan A’s

The city’s ball club travels to Kenosha to play the Bobcats Monday night, hosts Manitowoc Tuesday, celebrates the 4th with a day off Wednesday, hosts the Bobcats Thursday in the make-up of the Sponsors Night rain-out, and then hits the road for weekend with a Friday night game at Green Bay and Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders in Eau Claire.

Tuesday’s Manitowoc game has been set aside as Red, White and Blue Military Appreciation Night. All veterans and current members of the Military will be admitted without charge – all they need to do is show some sort of veteran identification. Fans are asked to don red, white and blue colors to add to the patriotic theme of the evening.

Recent addition Derek Loomans, who pitched at Lakeland College this spring, starts Monday night and Ben Stanczyk gets the Tuesday start.

The team has won three of its last four games to move to 15-12 for the season.

Harry Steldt leads the club in hitting with a .390 mark. He is due to return this week from a 10-day baseball trip to Europe. Alex Jaskulski is at .353, Drew Pearson .341, Tim Patzman .333 and Taylor Schwarz .302. Justin Hunt, who is hitting .275, leads the club in runs batted in with 16.

Leading pitchers are Stanczyk (2-2, 1.23), Brandon Winfield, who notched a club record fifth save last week (1-2, 2.20), Jake Schaefer (3-1, 2.33), Mitch Gardner (1-3, 2.86), Cody Griebling (1-1, 3.43) and Dillion Engle (5-1, 3.90). Engle leads in strikeouts with 50 in 38 innings.

League all-star games are scheduled for next week. On Wednesday, July 11, the Wisconsin State League All-Stars will tangle with the Chicago Suburban League All-Stars at Simmons Field in Kenosha, and then on Friday the Wildwood Park will host the all-star game between the Northeastern Wisconsin League All-Stars and the Langsdorf League All-Stars. A’s players will be playing for both teams in that game. The All-Stars will be announced this week.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels). All Sheboygan A's home games are played at Wildwood Baseball Park in Sheboygan. Connect with the A's on FacebookTwitterInstagram and YouTube.
