A’s double up Racine 6-3

Posted: June 30, 2012

Following a picket fence start, Sheboygan A’s pitchers settled in and A’s hitters had solid, productive at bats. The result was a 6-3 Langsdorf League victory over Racine at Wildwood Park Friday night.

The win gave the A’s a 3-1 record in their “friendly confines” this week. Next up is a Langsdorf game at historic Simmons Field against the Kenosha Bobcats Monday night, followed by their Military Appreciation Night game Tuesday night at Wildwood against the Manitowoc Bandits.

Racine put up ones in each of the first three innings. The A’s had it at 3-2 after doubles by Grant Evans and Tim Patzman keyed a 2-run first inning.

They picked up three in the third. Drew Pearson led off with a home run. Justin Hunt walked and scored on Chad Langley’s double and after being bunted to third by Sam Raff, scored in Sam Matthies’ infield out.

Starter Dillion Engle and relievers Mitch Gardner and Brandon Winfield shut out Racine the rest of the way. Engle went to 5-1 with the win, and the save was Winfield’s fifth of the season, a club record.

Patzman with a double and a pair of singles, and Dan Salzbrenner and Langley with a single and double and Pearson with a home run led the A’s at the plate. The three A’s pitchers held Racine to seven hits for the game and struck out eight.
