A’s slide hits four

A doubleheader today in Appleton will bring to an end one of the most grueling weeks in Sheboygan A’s history.
The A’s were handed their fourth straight one-run defeat in Green Bay Friday night, 5-4 to the Storm. The loss leaves the A’s at 5-5 for the season and 1-2 in the Northeastern Wisconsin League.
“We stunk up the place with errors and passed balls, but our guys kept battling and we had a chance to win it at the end. That’s when the umpires got in the act and sent us home,” A’s general manager Denny Moyer said.
“It’s been a tough stretch. With injuries, work conflicts and what not all else, Kyle (A’s manager Kyle Trewyn) hasn’t been able to put the same line-up on the field two games in a row. That’s got to end. It’s going to be a long season of we can’t develop some continuity,” he said.
Backed by four errors, Mitch Gardner got stuck with a loss despite not giving up an earned run.
Helped by walks, the A’s held a 4-3 lead until Green Bay scored two with the help of a throwing error for a 5-4 lead.
Jon Capasso doubled to lead off the ninth and went to third on a single by Drew Pearson. After a pop-up out, Taylor Schwarz was intentionally walked to load the bases. Then Chad Langley launched a fly ball to center. Capasso tagged, but was incredulously called out at home to end the game.
Pearson had three hits for the A’s and Schwarz two.
