A’s Win 4 of 5 Over Weekend

The Sheboygan A’s won four of their five games over the weekend to push their season record to 30-19 as they prepare to take on the first place Menasha MACs in Notheastern Wisconsin Baseball League action Monday night in Menasha.
On Friday night, the A’s beat the Burlington Barons in 11 innings. That win put the A’s in a first place tie with the Kenosha Kings in the Langsdorf League, both with 14-3 records. Tuesday night will decide that league. The A’s play their final league game at home against West Allis that night, while Kenosha is playing Northern Illinois. The A’s must win and Kenosha must lose if the A’s are to finish first. If the two teams tie, Kenosha has the regular season title and the top seed in the playoffs as they won the season series against the A’s 2-1.
In Wisconsin State League play on Saturday, the A’s swept the Addison Braves by 10-4 and 10-6 scores and then on Sunday the two teams split, the A’s winning 7-2 and then losing 11-1. The weekend results put the A’s at 9-12 in the WSL. They have three WSL games remaining, on Thurday in Kenosha and then a doubleheader Sunday against the Oshkosh Giants in Sheboygan. The A’s and Giants were rained out twice during the regular season and will be making up those games Sunday starting at 1 pm, or immediately following the Sheboygan Legion game if the Regional Tournament is backed up by weather.
The A’s next home game, Tuesday night, is Elks Night and Legend Larry’s Wings Night.
Weekend Summary
Friday
A’s 5, Burlington 4. Chad Langley delivered a bases-loaded walk-off single to give the A’s the win. With Mitch Gardner throwing a shutout the A’s took a 3-0 lead into the eighth inning, but Gardner ran out of gas and surrendered a loaded bases-clearing triple to Landon Tenhagen.
The A’s took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth, but Burlington tied it at four with an unearned run in the ninth. Jake Schaefer turned in a sparkling relief to maintain the tie until the 11th when Langley delivered the game deciding run.
Langley had a double and a pair of singles to lead the A’s at the plate. Greg Rhude, Ryan Schilter, Sam Mattheis and Grant Evans all had two hits with Langley and Trevor Theissen knocking in two runs.
Saturday
A’s 10, 10; Addison 4, 6. The A’s racked up 21 hits and got complete game victories from Nolan Peterson and Max Kramsky to take the Saturday doubleheader from Addison. The A’s took early leads in both games and cruised to the wins.
Luke Maldonado drove in three runs with two hits, Evans and Aaron Thorn drove in two runs with two hits and Frank Pietrantonio had two in game one, and Rhude’s three hits led sticking in game two.
Sunday
A’s 7, 1; Addison 2, 11. Cole Heili went 4-for-4 with a single, double and two home runs to lead the A’s victory. Bryce Taylor posted the A’s third complete game victory of the weekend.
Game two was a different story. Peter Sommerfeld was the only available A’s pitcher and took the ball despite just having pitched Thursday night.
It didn’t work. Thirteen Braves batted in the first inning as Addison raced out to a 9-0 lead after the first inning and went on to take 5-inning mercy rule shortened win. It marked Addison’s first Wisconsin State League win of the season.
Frank Pietrantonio had two hits for the A’s.
