A’s on the Wrong Side of a Wild Finish in Green Bay

What started out as a tense pitchers’ duel finished up as a tense slugfest.
The Greater Green Bay Blue Ribbons beat the Sheboygan A’s, 12-11 in 11 innings at Joannes Park in Green Bay Tuesday. It was a jackpot for the Ribbons and a disaster for the A’s as the game counted in the standings for both the Wisconsin State League and the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League.
The A’s, 3-3 overall, 1-2 WSL, 0-1 NEWBL, will try to rebound tonight when they take on Kewaskum in a 7:30 PM NEWBL game at Wildwood Baseball Park. Tonight’s game features grilled cheese sandwiches in the concessions stand.
Green Bay broke up 0-0 tie with a fifth inning run and when relievers couldn’t find the strike zone, Green Bay scored seven in the sixth to ruin Eric Schmitz’s good start.
But the A’s wouldn’t quit. They scored three in the seventh and then staged a wild rally for seven runs in the ninth inning with Cole Erickson, Joe Joey Pettit, and Brent Becker getting key hits for a 10-8 lead.
But neither would Green Bay quit. The Ribbons scored two in their half of the ninth to send the game into overtime at 10 -10. It was at about juncture that A’s manager Tim Moyer was run out of the game for protesting too vehemently the umpire’s performance.
After a scoreless 10th the A’s took an 11-10 lead Nick Hancock’s sacrifice bunt, Ross Krist’s base hit and Pettit’s sacrifice fly.
But Green Bay came back again and tallied two to take the game, 12-10.
The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
