A’s Open Season with Pair of Victories; Advance to Tournament Semis
Posted: May 23, 2021
The Sheboygan A’s collected two wins in their season-opening split-doubleheader as part of pool play in the Play Ball Tournament.
After surrendering a 2-0 lead late, the A’s walked it off in the seventh inning to defeat the Kewaskum A’s 3-2 in the opener.
Following a Kewaskum vs. West Allis matchup, that resulted in a 3-2 victory for West Allis, the A’s took on West Allis.
The A’s got on the board early after a Harry Steldt solo home run. They would tack on six more runs to what eventually became a 7-1 lead heading into the final frame. A few mental miscues and a couple of consecutive hits breathed life into the Nationals, who cut the lead to 7-6 wih the tying run on third base before Noah Imrie shut the door, picking up the save. Imrie was also credited with the win in game one, coming on in relief.
The A’s (2-0, 0-0 WSL, 0-0 NEWBL) now advance to the Play Ball Tournament semi-finals Sunday in Manitowoc. They are scheduled to face the Little Chute River Bandits, with the winner playing in the tournament championship at 3 PM. All games will be played at Manitowoc’s Municipal Field.
