2020 Sheboygan A’s co-Rookie of the Year, Colin Butkiewicz, has signed a professional baseball contract with the New Jersey Jackals of the independent Frontier League, a MLB partner league.
He finished the season with the A’s last year after being recommended by Brewers’ scout Ted Brzenk. Butkiewicz redshirted at Houston, then played two years at John A. Logan, a year at Western Kentucky and played his final collegiate year at Southern Illinois before joining the A’s.
In 11 games with the A’s last summer, Butkiewicz hit an even .400 and led the team in fielding, handling 70 chances without an error. He was named the co-Rookie of the Year along with infielder Jacob Neese.
Butkiewicz was slated to be with the A’s prior to his signing. He becomes the second member from the 2020 squad to sign an independent professional contract, joining pitcher Tyler Peccioli who signed with the Schaumburg Boomers, also of the Frontier League, earlier this offseason.
