Grayslake, IL – The vastly improved Northern Illinois Legends put the Sheboygan A’s away twice Saturday afternoon in a Wisconsin State League doubleheader. Scores were 2-1 and 4-2.
The losses leave the A’s with a 4-3 overall record going onto Monday night’s Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League game against the Green Bay Storm. Game time is 7:30 p.m. with Sponsors Night festivities starting at 5:30.
Three Northern Illinois pitchers limited the A’s to two hits in the first game. Dylan Detert led off the fourth with a double, but teammates couldn’t score him. Dan Barwick walked to lead off the fifth, moved up on Chad Langley’s hit and a wild pitch and then scored on Ben Gordon’s infield out. Derek Nelson got the win in relief, with hard-throwing Cal Haley getting the save. Derek Loomans took the loss despite his 5-inning 5-hit effort.
The A’s doubled their hit count in game two but the end result remained the same. Wyatt Olson led off the second with a triple and scored on Taylor Grimm’s base hit. Adam Ryan doubled in the fifth and scored on a wild pitch.
Trent Muscat’s 2-run double was the cash-in punch in the walk-filled, game-deciding, 3-run fourth inning. Weston Nelson took the loss.
Following Monday’s Sponsors Night game the A’s host Oshkosh Tuesday on Plymouth Dirt Track Night, travel to Kenosha Wednesday night and then host annual champion Lombard in four games over the weekend with Dave Moyer’s Hall of Fame induction scheduled for between games Saturday night and Throw-Back Day scheduled for Sunday when A’s uniforms for decades past will be worn.
