Manitowoc Rallies to Beat A’s
Posted: June 26, 2013
With outfielders and infielders on the mound, the Sheboygan A’s blew leads of 4-0 and 7-1 as the Manitowoc Bandits rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to take an 8-7 Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League victory.
The A’s held a 4-1 lead in the third inning, but that is when the parade started as starting pitcher Taylor Ditter was forced to leave the game with an elbow injury. He was the only pitcher on the bus forcing skipper Tyler Martin to use position players on the mound
Complicating matters was that the A’s offense dried up in the fifth inning and it managed to get only one runner as far as second base in the final five innings.
For the A’s, Luke Maldonado, Grant Evans, Frank Pietrantonio and Sam Raff all had two hits.
The A’s took a 7-5 lead into the ninth, but Manitowoc scored the three it needed, the game-winner on a wild pitch.
The team returns home Wednesday night to play Kenosha. Wednesday is Sheboygan Falls Night with Shorewest Realty and the Optimist Club joining the festivities along with the Lakeshore 3rd/4th team. Thursday is Golf Night with Zion Covenant Church, Swovy’s Board of Directors and Cub Scout Pack 3801 all in attendance. Prizes and special events have been lined up for both nights.
