Menasha Tops A’s In Pitcher’s Duel

Posted: June 11, 2013

2012 Northeastern Wisconsin League Pitcher of the Year Jason Wierschke (WERSCHKE) of the Menasha Macs and Max Kramsky of the Sheboygan A’s locked horns in a duel that had zeros in 14 of the scoreboard’s first 15 slots until Menasha got to the tiring A’s righthander and broke up the 1-0 game with a 4-spot in the bottom of the 8th for a 5-0 win.

Menasha’s 1st inning run was delivered by Mac Shumann’s base hit after Kyle Besquez led off the game with a double. Both teams had multiple chances to score again but failed until the eighth when a walk and a couple hits forced Kramsky’s departure and led to Menasha’s 4-run outburst.

Kramsky struck out eight and walked three. Wierschke fanned nine and didn’t walk anybody in his eight innings. Ex-big leaguer Jack Taschner finished up by striking out the side to preserve the win and the shutout for Menasha.

It marked the second time the A’s were shut out in the last three games.

Trevor Theissen had three hits and Cole Heili a double to lead the A’s offense. Besquez had a pair of doubles and Will Randerson a bases-loaded triple for Menasha in the decisive 8th.

“Max was great. He gave us a super effort,” GM Denny Moyer said. “It’s a shame we couldn’t win it for him, but we just didn’t hit when we had opportunities.”

The club, now 5-4, has to regroup in a hurry as it hosts Oshkosh in its Annual Sponsors and Friends Night Game tonight at Wildwood Baseball Park. First pitch is set for 7:30.
