Posted: June 7, 2013
RACINE – Winning on the road is never easy – even with an 8-run inning.
The Sheboygan A’s scored eight runs in the sixth inning to take an 11-1 lead over Racine Kiwanis here Thursday and left town with a hairy 11-9 victory. Tonight they host defending champion Green Bay at Wildwood Park in a 7:30 p.m.
Mitch Gardner gave the A’s a great start Thursday night and left after five innings with a 3-1 lead. His teammates thanked him with an 8-run sixth inning for the 11-1 lead. Gardner struck out eight, walked one and gave up only two hits, one being Nick Daridovic’s home run,to get the win.
Brady Callahan’s lead-off double started the big inning that was highlighted by Dan Barwick’s bases loaded triple.
Racine took advantage of A’s pitchers’ location issues to make the score 11-4 after six, 11-6 after eight and ran it to 11-9 before Max Kramsky struck out the final hitter, who represented the winning run.
Trevor Theissen and Chad Langley each had two hits and Grant Evans, Callahan and Barwick all had extra-base hits. Gardner got the win, his first of the season. Evans in the middle of a strike-’em-out- throw-’em-out double play and Ben Gordon with some sparkling plays at third base highlighted a strong defensive effort
The win makes the A’s 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Langsdorf League. The A’s return home tonight in a Northeastern Wisconsin League game against the Green Bay Storm.
