Posted: May 28, 2013

The Sheboygan A’s are scheduled to open their 51st season, weather permitting, Wednesday night, 7:30 p.m. against the Menasha MACs in a Northeastern Wisconsin League game at Wildwood Baseball Park.

Sheboygan holds a 76-54 lead over Menasha in the all-time series that dates back to 1967. Last year the teams split their four games, Sheboygan winning 3-0 and 6-1 and Menasha winning 21-5 and 12-5.

Menasha made it to the finals of the Northeastern Wisconsin League playoffs last year before losing to the Green Bay Storm 5-4 in 14 innings and 16-4. The A’s were eliminated in the semifinals by Green Bay 17-2 and 8-6.

Manager Tyler Martin will choose between Ben Stanczyk, Mitch Gardner. Lucas Wilsing and Derek Loomans for Wednesday’s opening day start.

Wednesday is Food Pantry Night, with fans getting $1 off the price of admission if they donate a non-perishable food item at the box office.

If rain interferes with Wednesday’s game, it is likely to be played on Thursday, following the high school tournament game.

The A’s host the West Allis Nationals Saturday at 5 p.m. and the Northern Illinois Legends Sunday at 1 p.m. Both are doubleheaders.

Saturday is Project G.R.I.L.L. Day when grills created by high school students and their industrial partners will be on display beginning at 12 noon at the ball park. Viewing is open to the public from 12-3 p.m.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels). All Sheboygan A's home games are played at Wildwood Baseball Park in Sheboygan. Connect with the A's on FacebookTwitterInstagram and YouTube.
