Tyler Martin named A’s manager
Posted: February 4, 2013
Tyler Martin, who served as bench coach for the Sheboygan A’s last year and who holds the distinction of throwing a Wisconsin State League no-hitter, will manage the A’s this summer.
Martin, a college and Eau Claire Cavalier teammate of Kyle Trewyn who managed the A’s last season, is currently in his third season as assistant baseball coach at Cardinal Stritch University where he is working toward his Master’s Degree in Sport Management.
Trewyn and Martin guided the A’s to a 33-27 record last year and berths in both the Langsdorf League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League playoffs. Trewyn is currently on the baseball staff at Bradley University.
Born in Pekin, IL, Martin was a baseball and basketball standout at Tremont High School. He was awarded scholarships to pitch for Kankakee Community College and then Cardinal Stritch where he and Trewyn became friends and battery mates.
The two played together at Stritch and for the State League’s Eau Claire Cavaliers where in 2009 Martin went 5-1 with a 2.88 earned run average and 53 strikeouts in 55 innings. One of those wins came in the form of a no-hitter over the Addison Braves. He was runner-up to Kenosha’s Jon Olson in Pitcher of the Year balloting that year.
“I am really looking forward to working with Tyler this summer,” A’s General Manager Denny Moyer said. “He did a great job for Kyle last year. He is a personable guy who relates well with players and with fans.”
“I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity and the upcoming season,” Martin said. “I am confident that we will build on our successes of last season. My goal is to play for league championships while representing the A’s organization and the Sheboygan community to the best of our abilities.
“It is an honor to be a part of a first-class organization and team with the rich tradition of the A’s. I was blessed to be able to experience baseball in Sheboygan while playing with the Cavs as well as serving as bench coach last season. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and look forward to the upcoming summer.
“I love the support that the Sheboygan community gives to the A’s. It’s really a neat thing to be a part of something that so many people are proud of. I know that we will put a team on the field that the fans are able to get behind and be excited about,” he said. The A’s open their 2013 season against the Menasha MACs at Wildwood Park on Wednesday night, May 29.
