Schaefer’s 1-Hitter Leads A’s Win

Posted: August 6, 2012

The Sheboygan A’s got off to a fast start and cruised to an easy win over the Manitowoc Bandits behind the 1-hit pitching of Jake Schaefer.

Schaefer, the beneficiary of a 6-0 lead after two innings had a no-hitter going until Andrew Daring singled in the sixth. It would be the only hit the Bandits would get as the A’s posted an 11-1 7-inning win.

The win ends the A’s Wisconsin State League season with a 9-15 record and wraps up the Northeastern Wisconsin League regular season with a 12-8 record.

The A’s launch best-of-three semi-final play in the Northeastern League Monday night in Green Bay. Derek Loomans is scheduled to start. Game two is in Sheboygan Tuesday night at 7:30 and the rubber game returns to Green Bay if necessary Wednesday night.

On Thursday the A’s travel to Kenosha for the Langsdorf League championship game.

Schaefer struck out four and walked three in his 7-inning 1-hitter. A walk, hit batsman and infield outs accounted for Manitowoc’s only run.

The A’s used walks and a 2-run single by Bobby Musil to get three runs in the first inning and added three more in the second with hits by Sam Raff, Harry Steldt and Justin Hunt doing the damage.

Raff had three hits and Steldt and Nick Gottowski both a single and a double to lead the offense.

The win puts the A’s at 33-24 for the season.
