A’s drop big game to Manitowoc

Posted: July 10, 2012

You just can’t make the kind of mistakes the Sheboygan A’s are making and come out on top in one-run games.

The A’s ran themselves out of a first inning run and then played indecisively on defense in the ninth inning. The result was a devastating 5-4 loss to the Manitowoc Bandits on Bud Light Night at Wildwood Baseball Park Monday.

The loss pretty much insures a second division finish in the Wisconsin State League and puts a damper on their first place hopes in the Northeastern League.

Manitowoc took a 2-0 lead in the second on a 2-out, 2-run double by Andrew Wilson.

The A’s fired up the Bud Light Night crowd with four runs, all after two were out in the fourth inning. Taylor Schwarz and Chad Langley each had two RBI singles in the frame.

Manitowoc got another 2-out, 2-run single in the fourth, this time by Brad Breier to re-tie the game.

Schwarz for the A’s and Andrew Doring for Manitowoc kept hitters quiet until Manitowoc got the game-deciding run in the ninth on an error, sacrifice bunt and Breier’s second big hit of the game.

The A’s wasted a hard-nosed performance by Schwarz, who struck out nine in the game. Doring got the win. Ryan Schilter had two hits for the A’s.

The A’s travel to Racine Tuesday, Kenosha Thursday and Burlington Saturday before returning home to host Addison in a doubleheader Sunday.

On Friday night the club is hosting the Langsdorf League/Northeastern Wisconsin League All-Star game. It should be a big night for Sheboygan Baseball, as the Pine Club, Strikers softballers, and two diamonds teams will hold outings at the ball park and it will be Craft Beer night with samplers and sales of a variety of craft beers available throughout the night. Action starts at 6:15 with the home run contest. The All-stars take the field at 7:30 p.m.

Trevor Theissen, Harry Steldt, Chad Langley, Ryan Schilter, Dillion Engle and Brandon Winfield will represent the A’s in the game as members of the Northeastern League. All of them except Schilter will also be playing in the Chicago Suburban/Wisconsin State League All-Star game Wednesday Night in Kenosha.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League.
