A’s hang on to nip Green Bay
Posted: June 21, 2012
It took a leaping grab by first baseman Harry Steldt to save the game and allow the Sheboygan A’s to post a 7-6 win over the Green Bay Storm Wednesday night.
Green Bay had the tying run on second and the lead run on first with two outs when Steldt made his diving catch to end the game.
The win gives the A’s a 4-4 record in the Northeastern Wisconsin League and an 11-7 overall mark. The club is in Manitowoc tonight to play the Bandits in a game that counts in both the NEW and the Wisconsin State League.
The A’s took a 1-0 first inning lead on Tim Patzman’s long home run over the Charter Communications sign in center field, and the A’s tallied four more in the second with Patzman’s 3-run bases clearing double the big blast and Drew Pearson’s follow-up single getting Patzman in with the fourth run.
It was a back-and-forth white knuckler after that with the A’s getting the decisive seventh run in the sixth when Pearson doubled and scored on Alex Jaskulski’s base hit. Brandon Winfield closed out the game after that.
Patzman drove in four runs with a double and home run, Pearson had three hits and Jaskulski and Sam Raff two each. Jake Ristow got the win in relief of Jake Schaefer with Winfield getting the save.
Following tonight’s game in Manitowoc, the A’s play 4-game weekend series in Chicago and then are home from Tuesday through Friday next week.
