Each week leading up to the season, SheboyganBaseball.org will look at how some Sheboygan A’s alumni, and A’s signed on for the current season are doing in their collegiate and professional seasons.
South Bend Silver Hawks
Andrew Wolcott (2006) was released by the Arizona Diamondbacks from the Class A South Bend Silver Hawks.
Wolcott, who pitched at Duke University, was drafted in the 17th round (516th overall) of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009. As a senior at Duke, Wolcott put together arguably one of the best seasons by a starting pitcher in Duke history when he led Duke’s starting rotation with an 8-3 record, a 2.77 ERA and 94.1 innings pitched and was a first team All-ACC choice.
Valparaiso University
Kevin Wild (2009, 2010) pitched six innings against Wofford, allowing two earned runs and striking out three, helping the Crusaders to a 8-7 victory over the Terriers.
University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee
The UWM Panthers went 1-3 at the Aztec Invitational held in San Diego, California.
Greg Blohowiak (2009, 2010) appeared in three games on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing no hits.
Ryan Solberg (2011) was 0-2 on the weekend, with one walk.
Eric King (2010) pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and striking out two and walking four.
Alex Erdmann (2010) appeared in 1 game, pitching 0.2 innings, allowing no hits and striking out one.
Derek Peake (2011) appeared in one game for the Panthers over the weekend, in a pinch running role. Peake is still recovering from a hand injury.
University of Illinois – Chicago
Collin Weyer (2011) pitched three innings over the weekend.
Weyer, who pitched against undefeated Kentucky, allowed five hits, giving up two runs and striking out three.
Missouri Southern State University
Cody Griebling (2009) helped lead the Lions to an 8-0, (1-0 MIAA) record after another stellar pitching performance against Truman. Griebling moved to 3-0 on the season, going eight innings and scattering nine hits, while striking out nine and walking just one. He allowed just two earned runs.
MSSU is now ranked 24th in the Division 2 Coaches Poll.
Point Loma Nazarene University
Jack Archie (2010, 2011) improved to 2-1 on the season with a 13-4 victory over San Diego Christian. Archie pitched 5.2 innings, striking out six batters.
Purdue North Central
Colin Willis (2011) is second on the team in batting average (as of February 27) with a .611 average. Willis has 11 hits in 18 at bats, with three doubles and one home run.
The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
