Oshkosh Rocks Reeling A’s
Posted: July 15, 2011
The Sheboygan A’s played solid baseball over the weekend and came into Thursday night’s Oshkosh game with high hopes of making a second half run for the pennant in both the Northeastern Wisconsin League and the Wisconsin State League.
Along came Oshkosh.
Two A’s errors enabled Oshkosh to score seven unearned runs in the first two innings and take an 8-2 victory in the game that counts in both leagues.
The A’s went from hopeful contender to a solid second division ball club in one night. And as they went through the motions after the first two innings, they looked like one.
Following an error that would have ended the first inning, Oshkosh got a walk and two hits for a 2-0 lead. Again in the second, Oshkosh had two outs, but a gift runner a second A’s error was followed by five straight hits and a 5-run inning.
Oshkosh winner Sean Grabig held the suddenly light-hitting A’s to just five hits. Eric Van Beck, who pitched well enough to win, took the loss for the A’s.
The A’s play Green Bay tonight at Wildwood at 7:30 p.m.
