Legends End A’s Season
Posted: August 10, 2010
A disappointing season came to a disappointing end in Appleton Monday night.
The Legends came up with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 7-4 lead and one-two-threed the A’s in the ninth to post the win and clinch a berth in the Northeastern Wisconsin League playoff finals.
The A’s finished 29-25 for the season, 12-14 in the Wisconisn State League, 14-10 in the Northeastern Wisconisn League and 1-2 in that league’s playoffs.
Take away a couple wild pitches and Kevin Wild has a great game as the A’s starter in the rubber game. He worked seven strong innings, giving up only three runs on four hits to a good Appleton ball club.
The A’s took a 4-3 lead into the eighth when Tayhlor Schwarz singled, moved up on Kyhle Edlhuber’s bunt, got to third on Phil Kramsky’s hit and scored on Alex Erdmann’s sacrifice fly.
But the eighth was a disaster. Mitch Gardner, who threw three perfect innings tne night before, couldn’t get untracked and Appleton scored four runs on two walks, a single, double, triple and sacrifice fly. The triple went to John Hendrick with the bases loaded. It was the decisive blow of the game.
Schwarz had a single and double, Ryan Schmitz two singles, Ryan Schilter a triple, and Doug Dekoning a double and a sacrifice fly.
