A’s Roll to Opening Win
Posted: May 27, 2008
Manager Chad Gehr couldn’t have asked for more in his Sheboygan A’s debut.
His returning big guns delivered.
One of his top returning pitchers gave a stellar performance.
And his new young players gave a strong accounting of themselves.
Gehr’s A’s racked up a 15-0 exhibition victory at Howards Grove in the season opener Tuesday night.
The club’s two leading hitters of a year ago had big nights. Grant Berkovitz was 4-for-5 with a home run, four runs batted in, four runs scored and two stolen bases. Tim Patzman had a single and a double, drove in a run and scored three. Tim Salm and Ryan Schmitz each drove in two runs, Schmitz and Taylor Schwarz added two hits and Jordan Rennicke drove in a pair of runs.
Lucas Wilsing limited Howards to two hits and struck out 10 in his five innings of work. Hoch fanned a pair in his two.
Peter Reschke had two hits for Howards.
The 1-0 A’s travel to Little Chute tonight for their Northeastern Wisconsin League opener. Drew Powers is scheduled to pitch.
