A'S RAINED OUT AGAIN; HEROES HERE ON MONDAY

2010-07-24

A field under water in De Pere forced cancellation of the Sheboygan A's doubleheader there Saturday.  The games will be made up in Sheboygan on Friday, Aug. 6, beginning at 7 p.m.

Next up for the A's is their highlight game of the summer, the Military Appreciation Day Game against the Heroes of the Diamond, the United States Military All-Stars, on Monday night. Gametime is 7:30 p.m., but fans are urged to arrive early so they don't miss the moving pre-game ceremonies.

Advance tickets selling for $5 are available until 1 p.m. Monday at Trilling True Value Hardware, Al & Al's, Legend Larry's and Talk of the Town.

To alleviate the parking shortage, the A's are offering free shuttle busing  from the old Sentry and Wal-Mart parking lots and the Blue Line Ice Center parking lot.

Veterans from throughout Sheboygan County will be in attendance and several groups are participating in the pre-game colors presentation.  The top veteran attendance will be special guest Harold Knuth.  Knuth is a 90-year-old WWII veteran of battles in North France, the Rhineland and the Battle of the Bulge. He will will participate in the Passing of the Flag, the Walk of Fame and will throw out the honorary first pitch.

The Sheboygan Pops Concert Band will perform the Armed Forces Salute and the National Anthem.

The City and County have issued proclamations declaring July 26 Military Appreciation Day and Mayor Bob Ryan and County Board Chair Mike Vandesteen will throw out the ceremonial first pitches.  They will be supported by State Senator Joseph Leibham, and State Representatives Terry Van Akkeren, Dan LeMahieu and Steve Kestell.

The first 1,000 fans who enter the game will be presented with commemorative miniature American Flags and every one wearing red, white and blue will receive a pass to a future A's game.
