A'S 'SPLIT' IN KENOSHA

2010-07-14

The Sheboygan A's gave it a go last night, but lost the June 8th game that was suspended by lightning in the eighth inning and completed in Kenosha Tuesday night.  But they won the game that was scheduled for last night behind a gutty, go-all-the-way pitching performance by Jack Archie.

The suspended loss was 4-3, the regularly scheduled win was 9-6.

Kenosha was leading 3-1 and hitting with two out in the bottom of the eighth when umpires spotted lightning and suspended the game last month.  It was resumed prior to Tuesday night's regularly scheduled game at Simmons Field.  The A's got that third out and then hit Kenosha with two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game.  A leadoff single by Doug Dekoning, an error, and a Cody Marshall double scored one run and Matt Schilter's sacrifice fly drove in the tying run.   A clutch 2-out single in the bottom of the ninth by John Hasser gave Kenosha its walk-off win.  Jared Fon had two hits for the A's in the game. Mitchell Gardner took the loss.

Kenosha opened a 6-2 lead in the regularly scheduled game, but the A's got it to 6-5 in the seventh with a Marshall double driving in two runs and a Ryan Schmitz single driving in another.  The A's added two more in the eighth on run-scoring hits by Ryan Schilter and Dekoning and made the final 9-6 score on Taylor Schwarz' 2-out, 2-run hit in the ninth.

Ryan Schilter had three hits in the game and Schmitz and Schwarz two each.

Archie went all the way scattering nine hits and pitching out of jams created by the shoddy defensive work of his teammates.  he struck out five and didn't walk anybody.

The A's, now 19-12 overall, 7-9 in the Wisconsin State League and 6-4 in the Northeastern Wisconsin League travel to Manitowoc tonight to play the Bandits in a game that counts in both league standings.  They are home with Oshkosh Thursday night following the Dead Citys/Teachers historic baseball exhibition game that starts at 6:30 p.m.
