A'S EKE OUT 4-3 WIN OVER GREEN BAY; BENEFIT TONIGHT

2010-06-17

A spimd Green Bay ball club gave the Sheboygan A's fits Wednesday night before Jordan Rennicke knocked in the game-winning run with an 8th inning double to give the A's a 4-3 Northeastern Wisconsin League victory on Bud Light Night at Wildwood Park.

The win puts the A's at 3-2 in the NEW and 9-2 overall going into tonight's big Mark Reinemann benefit night game.  A former A's player and current South High volunteer assistant coach underwent cancer surgery in Baltimore Tuesday.  The A's are giving gate receipts and proceeds from raffles and auctions to the Reinemann family in addition to accepting outright donations.

The A's will also welcome the Meals on Wheels volunteers tonight.

Last night's game was a tough one. Green Bay took a 2-0 lead after two innings, but following a shaky start Kevin Wild settled in and chalked up five hitless innings before he left the game after seven.

The A's had closed it to 2-1 by then as Ross Fassbinder singled, moved o up on Matt Schiter's bunt and scored on Taylor Schwarz' base hit.

After a walk to Fasbinder, Schiltler's base hit and a double steal by pinch runner Joey Patzman and Schilter set things up for Doug Dekoning, who came through with a clutch 2-out, 2-run single to give the A's a 3-2 lead.

Green Bay had a run in and the bases loaded with no outs in the eighth before Jack Larsen zeroed in with two strikeouts and a ground out out to escape further damage and send the A's back on offense tied, 3-3.

Then, it seemed, the A's who had committed three physical errors and a couple on the base paths, got serious.

Ryan Schmitz drew a walk to start the inning and moved up on Ryan Schilter's sacrifice bunt.  After a second out, Rennicke drilled an opposite field double to knock in pinch runner Jake Ristow with the go-ahead run.

Conner Lenz threw a 1-2-3 ninth to secure the win.

Gabe Marshall and Rennicke each had two hits for the A's. Doug Coe and Justin Sizemore each had two hits and an RBI for Green Bay.  Larsen got the win, Lenz the save and Michael Robbins the loss.
